Super Mario Lemonade

Mario entered the Item Shop to purchase some mushrooms for dinner.  He gathered several mushrooms into his basket, and walked them over to the register.  The cashier rang up the mushrooms, and requested, "Forty coins."

Mario dug through his pockets, but couldn't find any coins.  Mario looked up to the cashier, and began blushing profusely.  The cashier looked back at Mario, and said, "Look, buddy, if ya don't have da dough, I can't give you da 'shrooms."

Extremely embarrassed, Mario walked home to talk to his brother Luigi about their financial problem.

"We're out of coins!" yelled Mario.  "I tried to buy mushrooms, but I got embarrassed to show the guy behind the counter that I didn't have any!"

"Well, we need a way to get more coins then," said Luigi.

Ring ring.

"Oh!" exclaimed Mario.  "That's the phone!"  Mario ran over to the phone, picked it up, and spoke into it.  "Mushroom Kingdom, Mario speaking."

It was Princess Peach.  "Hi Mario!  Oh, can you hold for a minute?"

"Okeydokey!" said Mario.  He stood there for several minutes, waiting for Peach to get back onto the phone.  He stared down at his shoes.  They were beginning to get worn from years of adventures.  The right shoe's laces were untied.  He kneeled down, and tied them back into a bow.  Mario stood back up, and started tapping his fingers on the countertop.

"I'm back, Mario!" said Peach into the phone.  "Would you like to come over for Piranha Plant Wine?  Luigi can come too if he's on his best behavior and won't hurt anyone."

Mario turned away from the phone to Luigi.  "Want to go to Peach's for some wine?"  Luigi gave him a thumbs up.  Mario gave Peach a thumbs up through the phone, but when he realized she wouldn't be able to see it, he stated into the phone, "Sure."

Mario and Luigi put on their trench coats and fedoras, and walked secretly through the alleys to Peach's castle.  Peach greeted them at the door.

"Hi!" said Peach, cheerfully.

"Peach!" screamed Mario, "We're out of coins!"

Peach gasped at this sudden outburst of the Truth, and turned to think.  "Hmmm...  I know!  Why don't we start a lemonade stand to get money!"

Luigi asked, "What do you mean, 'we'?"

"I'll help you set up and run a lemonade stand.  Of course, I don't need any of the profits," exclaimed Peach.

"Excellent!" said Mario.

Twenty-seven minutes later, Mario, Luigi, and Peach were still having troubles setting up their lemonade stand.  "I know!" said Luigi.  "Let's ask Donkey Kong to help us set up the lemonade stand!"

They went to Kongo Jungle, to Donkey Kong's tree house.

"Donkey Kong?" Peach yelled up to Donkey Kong.  "Will you help us with our lemonade stand?"

Donkey Kong began screaming in Monkey Talk, then began beating on his chest rhythmically.

"Great!" said Peach.

Forty-nine minutes later, Peach, Mario, Luigi, and Donkey Kong made the best lemonade stand in the history of the Mushroom Kingdom.  They set it up in Peach's Castle Grounds, since many residents and tourists stopped there to view the magnificent castle.  They were selling lemonade for five coins a cup, which was a pretty reasonable price.  Many customers stopped by to purchase lemonade.  Donkey Kong smashed the lemons into juice, Mario added the sugar, Luigi added the ice, and Peach handled the transactions.  Everything was going well.

Mario and his friends had sold their hundredth lemonade, earning their 500th coin (excepting expenses, etc.), when to their surprise, Bowser flew in overhead in his flying propellered clown car.

"Bwa ha ha!" he shouted as he landed.  "I hate Mario, but most of all, I hate Mario making money!"

Bowser set up his own lemonade stand all by himself.  And it only took him two minutes.  He took out his Bowser phone and spoke into it.  "Come now to serve lemonade."  Out of nowhere, Boo, Bob-Omb, and Bowser Jr. came to help Bowser serve lemonade.

"Mamma-mia!" cried Mario.  "It's competition!"

"That's right!" yelled Bowser.  "And to make things even more miserable for you, we're selling our lemonade for only three coins!

Overall, Bowser really didn't take too many of Mario's customers.  Too many people were afraid of Bowser to buy things from his lemonade stand.  However, the poorer residents who couldn't afford to pay five coins were able to pay for Bowser's cheaper lemonade.  Regardless, Bowser was jealous that Mario was making more money.

"Bob-omb, go!" said Bowser.  Immediately, Bob-omb began walking over toward Mario's lemonade stand, fuse lit, and ready to explode.

"RUN!" said Mario.  They did.

Mario's lemonade stand was exploded.  Mario was devastated.  They were never going to get money now.  All the residents of the Mushroom Kingdom felt bad for Mario and his friends, so they each donated 50 coins to Mario to help him make a new lemonade stand.

Of course, with hundreds of Toads donating that many coins, it was not necessary to build a new lemonade stand, so Mario and Luigi walked back home to count their coinage.

"Wow!" said Mario.  "We made 1,435 coins today!"

"Yeah," said Luigi, "but we have to exclude expenses.  Minus 200 coins, that leaves us with 1,235 coins."

"Oh," said Mario, "then there's also Donkey Kong's share.  He wanted an even third of all the coins, so that leaves us with 823 coins."

"Oh," said Luigi.  He was expecting that they'd get more coins, and was rather disappointed.
